I love drawing. I always have. I started drawing when I was probably five. I’m an illustrator. I’m not an artist. I’m an illustrator. What’s wrong with that? Nothing. That’s what.

I think I’ve known that for a while but this sabbatical has really brought it home. Confidence is a funny thing. It comes back when you do something you’re good at. How weird is that? But then it affects other things. Confidence spreads to other areas and all of a sudden you’re willing to try new things. Maybe even willing to challenge yourself.

The latest Proposify illustrations were some of the easiest (read: most fun) I’ve done so far:




Who wouldn’t want to draw the Joker?! This was just a blast to draw. Caricaturing Einstein was also a blast. My line work is getting better. I can thank Nate Van Dyke for that.

I’m drawing for the fun of it now. That hasn’t happened since before NSCAD. That’s a long time.
